Atheists believe Democrats aren’t really religious, they just pretend to be to get elected – and it may be true for most politicians the same way it is for most people. Going to church is not the same thing as living a liturgical lifestyle. But for the first 2.5 years of his presidency, Barack Obama was giving some credence to that belief. It was so obvious he was faux religious that even Bill Maher figured it out.
But it’s election season and that means it’s time to pony up some sectarian metaphors – while Democrats may be slightly less religious they aren’t voting any pagans into the White House.
He came through and now says he prays every morning and has crafted elements of his economic policies in line with Jesus’ teachings. This from a guy who visited a mosque before he ever visited a church after moving into the White House. He saw the light and realized Jesus wants him to waste a bunch of money and raise taxes.
He told 3,000 people at a National Prayer Breakfast that a meeting with Billy Graham in 2010 changed his religious indifference prior to that – but he didn’t explain how his newfound respect for religion led to his administration’s rule requiring religiously affiliated non-profit groups to provide birth control to women even if it is against their beliefs. “I have fallen on my knees with great regularity since that moment – asking God for guidance not just in my personal life and my Christian walk, but in the life of this nation and in the values that hold us together and keep us strong.”
Ummm, values like requiring Catholic non-profits to fund birth control? I am no Biblical expert but I bet that’s not in there.
On taxes:
“I actually think that’s going to make economic sense. But for me as a Christian, it also coincides with Jesus’ teaching that ‘for unto whom much is given, much shall be required,'” he told them. Jesus meant the government should take the place of religion? To a lot of progressives, that is certainly gospel.
Former Democratic congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper, a Catholic from Erie, Pennsylvania, who cast a crucial vote in favor of Obamacare in 2010 and lost her seat that November in part because that, said recently that she would have never voted for the health care bill had she known that the Department of Health and Human Services would require all private insurers, including Catholic charities and hospitals, to provide free coverage of contraception, sterilization procedures, and the “week-after” pill “ella” that can induce early abortions.
